---Krishnasurfi's thought for the day----> we look at conditions prevailing in the world and observe what is happening there – the student’s riots, the class prejudices, the conflict of black against white, the wars, the political confusion, the divisions caused by nationalities and religions…..we are also aware of conflict, struggle, anxiety, loneliness, despair, lack of love, and fear….why do we accept all this?….why do we accept the moral, social environment knowing very well that it is utterly immoral; knowing this for ourselves – not merely emotionally or sentimentally but looking at the world and at ourselves – why do we live this way?….why is it that our educational system does not turn out real human beings but mechanical entities trained to accept certain jobs and finally die?….education, science and religion have not solved our problems at all…..looking at all this confusion, why does each one of us accept and conform, instead of shattering the whole process in ourselves?……..

…….in today's "tales from the hollywood bowl"……yesterday was the 3 year anniversary of when john broke his back……that was such a heavy experience for me……it had me weird for months……the indo factor was in full effect from when it happened until he got on the medi-vac plane to singapore…..now what I am calling the indo factor:

-INDO-FACTOR-

1. about 2 hours after johns accident we get to the mentawai capital of tua pejat, I run to the harbor office and ask then to call the ambulance……10 minutes later(no siren, no ambulance), I run back from the dock to the office, the say ambulance have flat tire(they didn't come tell us, I guess they figured we would come back eventually, so they could give us that information)…..on my way back to the dock I commandeered a pick-up truck to take him……

2. I stayed and watched the boat while the boss was taken to the hospital/clinic…..while at the clinic he was put on oxygen……after 15 minutes or so, terry(our surf-guide) realised that the hospital staff had not turned on the oxygen…..(while watching the boat I noticed a strange long boat tied to the other dock…..I ran over and asked where does this ferry go?….they said padang, then I asked when does it leave?…..330 was their response…..this was good news to me as if we had to drive him to padang in our boat it would be a long bumpy crossing to padang…..this boat, come to find out is the mentawai fast ferry, it was the first week that it had started)…….

3. they brought john on a stretcher to the boat….we loaded him…..he was semi-consciences at this point……I was with him while everyone else was on the dock making a plan……I asked how he was doing…..his response in a vague whisper was pain-killers……so I went outside to the dock and said john is asking for pain killers…..they told me it was in the IV……I went back in followed the line, come to find out the iv dial was closed, so I opened the dial, gave the bag a couple of squeezes and asked how's that sir???……he smiled, and closed his eyes……I sat there holding his hand till it was time for the ferry to go and we went back to the island to keep everything as close to normal as possible(we were 4 or 5 days into an 11 day trip full with guests)

3. in the hospital in padang trying to x-ray john the staff couldn't move him with care so john's friends did all the flipping, holding and moving……

4. the head doctor who makes the call if the medi-vac should come or if he can fly by regular airline, said he was ok to fly regular airline(he missed the spinal fractures, in the x-rays)

5. on the way to the medi-vac they banged john into the hospital door……

6. somewhere around this point, they set john down outside the ambulance, while it was running next to the exhaust pipe, while they were making a plan, and trying to communicate with the staff of the hospital……

7. finally at the airport, the medi-vac doctor being in shock with the incompatence of the indo doctors, staff, etc……told them…….just put him down you dummies don't touch him anymore…..
